When we moved yonder east, fancy and I took the opportunity to finally get a joint bank account because that is what one does. Apparently it shows one's commitment and the general we are in this mess together-ness.
However, apparently Asian families don't dig being controlled by their significant other because upon finally checking my bank balance yesterday I realized that I could only see 2X worth of transactions, however my bank account has been reduced by something more around the value of 67X. Funny. Where did all that money go. Before accusing them of theft I realized, well, yes, half the transactions from IKEA are not on there I know that I left what feels like millions at IKEA (despite the fact that everything is so damn cheap! How does that happen?), so I knew something was wrong.
It turns out anything fancy purchases I cannot see on my statement and vice versa. It would have been funnier if he, as an Asian man, could see what I spent but I could not see what he spent. My favorite would be however if the total balance would only reflect my purchases, thus giving me the illusion of a double salary and only half the expenditures. Sadly this is not the case.
Do all joint bank accounts hide this stuff from you or is it just a testament to Asian family trust?

It's just an Asian thing - and not one we had 10 years ago. I wonder what happened in the meantime? LKH's daughter in law run up a credit card bill? And what happens when hubby sees the balance dropping and no reason for it "Govt take money, ah?"
God we wanna be there. Fingers crossed.
Before the world accuses me of squandering our fortune, I think we need to clarify that WE are TOGETHER responsible for the remaining 67 transactions. It just so happens that I had a quicker draw with the credit card on our exciting shopping sprees at Ikea, various grocery and stores, etc. Phew. Had to get that out.
sounds like fun. maybe it's because you have a different last name (maiden name)? i know asians get particular with that sort of thing -- my mom has had all sorts of problems in Korea and India, even after 30 years of happy marriage (and of course, she was always the expat wife so never made any of her own money).
for a while, i could not access our "joint" savings account here in the U.S. ... scary ...
so, you can buy as many hookers as you want and alex will never know!?!
Indeed all 67 transactions were all my fault, except not my problem cause I am slow with the card.
I can indeed buy all the hookers I want and then blame it on LKY OR the fact that I keep having to supply our (as of Thursday!) maid with window cleaning spray.
Not a maiden name issue. It's just like that apparently.
